Termites

Man's best friend -- termite's worst enemy.

Our termite dog program has evolved over the past few years into a program that produces top quality dogs and handlers. We’ve drawn on veterinary and animal behavior research and entomological research to create one of the best dog training programs in the country. We’ve learned to train termite dogs using only live termites because we believe that using anything else teaches the dogs to alert on some odor not consistent with active termite infestations. We also scent discriminate our dogs off the odor of old damage so that our dogs can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment methodologies. In other words an FSI termite dog can be brought back to a house next year to confirm that the termites are indeed gone.

Termites cause over a billion dollars in property damage in the United States every year. Yet according to studies by leading universities into termite detection methods, termite infestations go undetected by human inspectors about two-thirds of the time. That’s because human inspectors must rely on visual signs of termite damage to detect the presence of termites. – Unfortunately, by the time termite damage is visible, structural damage is usually there too.

Most termite inspectors work hard to do a good job, they train regularly and keep up with changes in the termite detection field. But they can’t be expected to find what they can’t see. Human termite inspectors can’t see through walls or floors and that’s many times where termites infiltrate a structure and cause damage. Termites eat structural wood framing, the paper on drywall and any other cellulose material. When termites have eaten so much from behind the wall or under the floor, that the damage becomes visible on the outside of the wall it can then be detected by a human termite inspector. Termite dogs don’t need to see the damage or see through walls or floors to detect termites. Termite dogs have “X-ray” noses and can detect small termite infestations before they cause serious harm to a structure.

An FSI termite dog offers your company a capability for early termite detection unmatched in the industry. –A termite dog can also be one of the most successful business development tools you’ll ever incorporate into your marketing program. Because a termite dog can sniff out early termite infestations in concealed areas, such as floors and walls, your company will have the opportunity to sell more work. A termite dog will also help you better serve your customers because you can stop the damage to your customer's homes early on.

If you are serious about finding termites and building your business, call us to learn how one of our termite dogs can help your company.
